• 1985 Company founder Gerhard Mayer develops the first mens shoe collection in cooperation with a leading manufacturer of high-quality mens shoes based in the famous german shoe city Pirmasens. The foundation was many years of experience in developing and distributing of Italian shoe collections.

    Innovative buyers from established textile houses recognised the potential to expand their range with the new shoe collection. Increasing demands on styling and processing techniques required the relocation of production to Italy.
  • 1994 Launch of the brand G. K. MAYER SHOES, named after company founder Gerhard Kurt Mayer.
  • 1996 First trade fair appearance at the Mens Fashion Week in Cologne with huge success.
    The one-man company is supported by son Robin Mayer, businessman and IT specialist.
    Simultaneous expansion of the programme with a womens shoe collection.
  • 1997 Son Steffen Mayer, also a trained businessman, is integrated into the team.
  • 1999 The management team is expanded by the wife of the founder, Ursula Mayer, who has more than 30 years of experience in purchasing, sales and management.
  • 2000 Construction of a company building with warehouse in Rodalben.
    Expansion of the operative team to 9 employees.
    Regular presence at trade fairs and maintenance of the companys own showroom in Düsseldorf Kaiserswerther Straße, contribute significantly to the increase in awareness and growth of the brand.
  • 2001 In order to realise the founders philosophy of incorporating the highest quality manufacturing techniques into the collection, further production sites in Tuscany, Calabria and Naples are included.
  • 2003 Opening of the first own retail shop, in Germany.
  • 2004 Expansion of the company with further branches in the Netherlands and Austria.
  • 2005 Internationally recognised know-how leads to contacts with major customers and development of further own-name product lines for these customers.
  • 2009 Opening of an office in Italy, centrally located in the Marche, for organisation, collection development and controlling.
  • 2010-2013 Expansion of the branch network in Germany, Austria and France.
    Entry into the online business.

  • 2014 Expansion of the company building with a high-bay warehouse due to increased presence at trade fairs.
  • 2015 Opening of further branches in Germany and Austria.
    Redesign of the companys own online shop.
    The company now has over 100 employees.
  • 2018 Opening of the first G. K. Mayer Shoes Premium Store in Baden-Baden

G. K. MAYER SHOES stands for contemporary design, and a traditional and innovative brand.


Our shoes are made of high quality leather, using traditional working techniques, mainly in Italy. You will feel this first-class quality when you wear them. And if you look very closely, you will also notice tiny irregularities: the natural product leather always shows slight colour variations and unevenness; minimal deviations in the seams, the welt and the sole are typical for handmade shoes.


We enjoy fine leather and meticulous craftsmanship. We place special value to detail. And we are only satisfied when the fit is absolutely perfect. In short: for us, making shoes is still high craftsmanship. As a family business, we completely stand behind our products.
